Flight of Fancy podcast: Top tips from Australia's most experienced travellers

A lot went wrong on my first-ever trip overseas as an adult. I made a lot of mistakes. I got on the wrong train to New York and ended up lost and lonely in Grand Central Station. I got swindled in the Caribbean. I spent all my money in London. I crashed a scooter in Portugal.

But this sort of thing happens when you first start out travelling. It's the only way to learn.

And you do learn, as the years go by, as you amass more and more experience. That's the beauty of travel. And some of us end up amassing far more of it than others. In fact, some of us spend an entire lifetime taking these journeys and learning from these experiences. Some of us have come to know more about travel, and more about the world, than almost anyone else.

And today, I have two of them here to share their wisdom. On this episode of Flight of Fancy, I'm joined by Getaway host Catriona Rowntree, and Traveller writer and Antarctic explorer David McGonigal, two travellers with an absolute wealth of experience to share.

We're going to find out their secrets to travel, to life, and to the world. We're going to find out how to do this thing right, how to avoid too many mistakes, where to go, what to do, and how to expect your life to change forever while you're doing it.

This Flight of Fancy episode is hosted and produced by Ben Groundwater and mixed by Tim Mummery.
